Active ImageIt all started back in good ol’ high school at the La Salle Green Hills when Jay Jay Lozano (guitar/vocals) decided to start a band with buddies Rocky Collado (drums/vocals) and Louie Poco (bass/vocals). Believe it or not, they played alternative and punk music, with inspirations ranging from Oasis to Blink 182 and McCarthy.

Strange, ain’t it? Mod was their style of choice – case in point: Jay Jay’s hair, Jay Jay’s pants. When they finally got into college, they started tapping what they now fondly call “happy music”, playing a few songs from the 60s during odd gigs. Ritchie Valens fueled their first steps, with songs such as Do You Wanna Dance, C’mon Let’s Go and La Bamba being played as staple gig tracks.

La Bamba became a huge hit in all their gigs, and they later on noticed how their audience enjoyed this “happy” stuff they did. They then decided to expand their repertoire of 60s rock ‘n’ roll from one gig to the next. Inspired by other legendary rock ‘n’ roll bands such as The Beach Boys and The Four Freshmen, they became interested in blending in vocal harmonies during performances. That’s when Pepe Lozano (guitar/vocals) – Jay Jay’s brother from shoegaze band Weedisneys – along with Lakan Hila (keyboards/vocals), also from the Weedisneys, hopped in.

The rest is rock ‘n’ roll history. Word got around that a group called The Bloomfields – a bunch of young, energetic boys in suits who played “daddy music” (but definitely fun and timeless music nonetheless) – was making thunderous waves playing in schools, private parties, and bars. In addition to their already excellent music portfolio, the boys recently made the papers when they fronted for big foreign acts Gary Lewis (2005) and Herman’s Hermits (2006), both held at the Araneta Coliseum.
